CMC Firestopping were engaged to deliver targeted remedial fire stopping works at EE’s unit within the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock, following BT installation works. This project involved sealing firewall penetrations where new cabling and services had been routed through existing fire compartments – a critical aspect in maintaining the building’s original fire strategy.
our role with EE RETAIL STORE
CMC Firestopping provided a full-spectrum passive fire protection service across both phases, including:
- Survey and identification of compromised fire compartments
- Installation of tested, compliant fire stopping systems around new and existing penetrations
- Close liaison with engineers and site facilities management to ensure minimal disruption
- Compliance with BS 476 and EN 1366 standards, ensuring all fire stopping systems met the required fire resistance performance criteria.
- Provision of detailed compliance reporting and updated fire stopping records.
- Coordination with other subcontractors during critical fit-out stages to ensure zero delays and seamless delivery.
challenges & solutions
Remedial works often come with unknowns. Unlike new build installations, these environments require working within existing fabric, often in restricted voids and occupied spaces. Coordination with BT engineers was key to ensuring safety-critical seals were installed without interrupting live services.
Our team carried out a thorough survey, identifying risk areas and implementing appropriate fire-rated sealant, batt, and collar systems to restore compartmentation and meet FR performance requirements.
Our Results
Any penetration through a firewall, whether for data, power, or HVAC, creates a vulnerability. Without correct fire stopping, these gaps compromise the integrity of the fire strategy and put people and assets at risk.
Through swift mobilisation, certified installers, and detailed QA reporting, CMC ensured EE’s unit remained compliant and protected – meeting regulatory standards and giving complete peace of mind to all stakeholders.
Why It Matters?
In fast-paced retail fit-outs, fire stopping is critical to meeting handover deadlines and ensuring building safety from day one. With CMC Firestopping, contractors and clients gain the reassurance of an experienced, certified team that delivers quality-assured, regulation-compliant passive fire protection solutions – every time.
